Hand Of Glory Records, (the label of Mary Epworth and producer Will Twynham) asked twelve diverse artists for an original Christmas song. The results are tracks that sum up the many experiences of Christmas, from lush widescreen pop (The Webb Brothers), to sparkly saturnalian disco (Mary Epworth) to dystopian Fall-esque horror (Extradition Order).  Standout tracks include Young Knives’ dark, medieval toned Low Carol, Kiran Leonard’s sprawling proggy epic Huygens Probe, and Papernut Cambridge’s charming and magical 93 Million and One. Mary says “When we first solicited contributions for this album back in July (yes, it’s been Christmas since then for us at least) we didn’t know what to expect, and we certainly couldn’t have predicted that it would be quite so weird. Personally, as each song arrived I was thrilled to hear how no two artists had approached this from the same angle, or had gone for similar atmosphere. Christmas, Yule, or whatever you call it means many things to many people. Some revisit old memories happily, some measure progress or lack of it, some just drink, and some go for the cracker hats and party games of old. For me it’s about wildness and old traditions, so that’s what I went for, via a bit of disco synthpop.”
